A headline price is not the complete project
Two offers can look similar while including different things. Before calculating payback, write down the exact model names, regional versions and what each quoted package includes. “Battery ready” does not mean a battery is supplied.
Ask for unresolved items to be clarified in writing. Mark a missing cost as unknown, rather than silently treating it as zero. Keep delivery, installation and any required accessory costs visible.
Compare the same list of items
- Panels: quantity, rated Wp, dimensions and the exact model.
- Inverter or controller: regional version, AC output and documented system architecture.
- Battery: nominal and usable capacity, required control or metering equipment.
- Mounting and cabling: included items and site-specific work still needed.
- Total price: applicable taxes, shipping, installation and any recurring costs.
- After purchase: delivery expectations, warranty provider, returns and support contact.
Same-looking connectors or the same nominal capacity are not proof of equivalent or compatible systems. Use the manufacturer’s documentation for the whole combination.
An illustrative comparison
| Item | Offer A | Offer B |
|---|---|---|
| Solar kit | $650 | $740 |
| Required mounting | $90 | Included |
| Required cables | $40 | Included |
| Delivery | $20 | Included |
| Comparable total | $800 | $740 |
Offer A starts $90 lower, but its comparable total is $60 higher. This example assumes the equipment and work are otherwise equivalent; price alone cannot establish that equivalence.
Keep the battery addition separate
For a new installation, record the complete solar-only cost and then the additional battery cost. For a retrofit, do not re-enter the old panel purchase as a new cost. Include new hardware that the battery requires, even if it is sold under a different product name.
The calculator has a per-nominal-kWh battery price and a separate fixed-extra field. A quote with a non-linear bundle discount may not match that simplified price curve. Use the actual total for the capacity you are examining, and avoid assuming the same unit price applies to every size.
Before following a purchase link
Confirm that the merchant serves your country, the linked product is the intended regional model and the current checkout includes the expected items. Recheck stock, returns and the final price at the merchant. A planning estimate does not reserve stock or lock a price.
Bring the comparison back to the calculator and revise the cost inputs. Save the assumptions with the quote date. If one missing item could change the decision, resolve it before treating the result as a reason to buy.
